An epic story from biblical times following the ressurrection through the eyes of a non-believer. The powerful roman military tribune, Clavius, and aside, Lucius, take on the task of solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus in the weeks before his death.
"Risen is just a few hallelujahs short from being another wasted morning at Sunday School" is just one of many negative things RottenTomatoes critic David Crow has to say about the film. The plot of the movie which had restricting budget limitations could be seen from the beginning of the film, as the story of the film is possibly the most famous tale in the entire world. After all, its about the story of Jesus Christ rising. More criticism David has to add is that the film took a rather biased approach to promote religion - skewed towards the religious target audience. Similar opinions can be found in Metacritic reviews, many saying that the main plot is revealed too early in the film, and the rest is a simple recap of biblical history featuring the Apostles, Galilee, and Heaven. Critic Jonathan Pile also believes this, relating the second half of the film to Christian TV Sunday channel.
