Deadpool tells the story of Wade Wilson, a former special forces officer who undergoes a rogue experiment which leaves him with the ability to rapidly heal himself. He then picks up the alter ego Deadpool and hunts down the man who nearly killed him.
This sounded so bizarre I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. It is number 8 in the X-Men series and is a kind of action comedy. Based on a Marvel comics character, Deadpool is a former Special Forces agent who was subjected to an experiment which leaves him with extraordinary healing powers and who is now bent on revenge on the man who did this to him. IMDb gives it a very solid 8.2/10. Over at Rotten Tomatoes critics gave it an average rating of 69% and audiences 83%. User reviews rate it highly for its humour, the action sequences, its pace and its general wackiness, all of which I totally agree! Ryan Reynolds performance got rave reviews, and without wanting to give too much away, I can say that you see him in a new light in this film! Audience reaction translated well into box office results with Deadpool being the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, the highest grossing X-Men film and one of the most successful films of 2016, and its not surprising due to the massive hype and publicity on social media. It's full of funny lines and scenes and if you go and see it you are bound to find yourself talking about it and trading quotes with your friends for days afterwards. The audience ratings are a much better reflection of the film compared to the critics on this one!
